About the HDL Enhancement Group...
There has been considerable controversy on the effects of alcohol consumption on the cardio-vascular system,
with some studies suggesting that various alcoholic beverages may in fact have a beneficial effect if consumed
in moderation. While the jury is still out (to a three martini lunch) for a final verdict on this subject,
The New England Journal of Medicine reported in it's December 16, 1993 issue that
"...the data confirmed the inverse
association of moderate alcohol intake with the risk of myocardial infarction and support the view that
the effect is mediated, in large part, by increases in both HDL2 and HDL3."
In support of this conclusion, the HDL Enhancement Group was formed in June of 1994 to further
investigate the positive effects of moderate alcohol comsumption. Among our (informal) findings
are an increased positive social presence of those involved in the studies.
We also found that this effect is further enhanced in the presence of mixed company, music and hors d'oeuvres.
We therefore we felt a significant social responsibility to continue these studies indefinitely,
and to invite other interested parties to join in our endeavours. You are hereby invited to enjoin and
participate in these activities.
The HDL Enhancement Group is a not for profit organization. All of the events hosted by the HDL Enhancement Group
are "break-even" events for the hosts and sponsors.
