Wine Secrets from Souther Italy A social event exploring the wine, cuisine & culture from Campania and Puglia
Thursday November 20, 7:00pm
$45.00
REGISTER TO ATTEND Long ignored by fine-wine lovers, the vineyards of southern Italy are undergoing a renaissance and for the past several years, Italian wine growers are rediscovering many of the nations ancient native varieties. Sicily, Puglia, and especially Campania now crop up in every conversation about the best 'new' wines - some of which are wines from grape varieties that have been cultivated in the volcanic hills around Naples and Salerno for up to 2500 years.
Join us to rediscover two new Italian favorites. |
The region of Pugliaproduces more wine than any other Italian region and competes with Sicily for first place as grape producer.
The history of grape vine in Pugliahas very ancient origins and it is believed this plant has always been present in the territory of the region.
The wines mainly representing Pugliaare reds and roses, however in the region are also produced interesting white wines. |
 |
The region of Campania is firmly on the tourist’s map, but curiously not on the wine lover’s map. There are superb wines being produced here, with its Ancient Greek grape varieties.
Campania is rich in culture and is known for its gastronomy, architecture, ancient sites such as Pompeii and its capital city of Naples.
The name of Campania itself is derived from Latins Campania felix, which translates to "fertile countryside".
|
Bacchus, a wine boutique on the upper west side, hides a fantastic tasting room and an extensive wine cellar below. We gather here amongst oak shelves and stone columns to sample eight South Italian wines paired with typical cheeses and foods from the regions. Learn something exciting about this ancient and culture-rich country side and mingle with an international group of young professionals.
Wines
White: Casa D’Ambra Ischia Bianco Superiore Alberto Long Le Fossette Falanghina – Puglia Argillae Grechetto

I have never tasted so many extraordinarily rich, concentrated, massive wines yet with such precision, delineation and freshness…Is 2005 the perfect vintage?” But what about value? 2005 Chateauneuf Du Pape
France’s Rhône Valley now stands alongside Bordeaux and Burgundy
as a world-class winegrowing region. Critic James Molesworth of the Wine Spectator: “In 2005…the Southern Rhône enjoyed a superb harvest. The region's top domaines produced cellar-worthy reds…2005 is also the most consistent vintage the Rhône has seen since 1990, with all the major appellations performing well. From top to bottom, 2005 is a vintage for seasoned Rhône lovers to stock up on and for novices to seriously consider as the building block of a cellar.” Please join ! us for a rare chance to taste through 8 of the top 2005 wines of Chateauneuf du Pape.
